Mice chew out of wall voids and gain access to kitchen drawers and cabinets from the back. When you do a search for mouse droppings do a search for nests as well. Rodents are already naturally drawn toward structures because of their smell and the cover they provide. They can also be found in the attic where mice are living and exploring.

In fact on a recent vacation we had at least 2 rats living in the attic. Rats in the summer summer is always the dry season and always the busiest time for both human and wild animals. Rats are not exception in this as they usually get so busy in running around in search of food. I was surprised because it was 100 degrees outside heat index was 108 and the attic heat would have been much much hotter guessing 130 140.

The first we knew about it was when we looked between 2 chairs in the dining room and saw it looking up at us. Needless to say the rest of the vacation was not that great. In most cases people have rodent issues in their home during the winter but mice can cause issues during the summer as well. At that time we started hearing noises in the attic.

Mice and rats tend to explore a fair bit more during summer than they do during other seasons. If you have rats in the attic do not think they will stay there and not visit the rest of the house. They do not go into hibernation at any time of the year not even during the winter season or the summer season. But droppings don t appear only in your kitchen.

While they re sneaking around in the underbrush they tend to find ways to creep into homes. We had our home resided this summer.
