Good luck on your project.
Door height for 10 foot ceiling.
With a 10 foot high ceiling i d use 8 foot high doors and set the window heads at the same 8 foot height.
My rule of thumb is to use the 8 0 doors when you have tall ceilings or to use transoms with 6 8 doors.
Furthermore a change in ceiling height from room to room really added a nice juxtaposition between each room even though some of the rooms were only separated by archways.
It is not the physical height of the riser because this excludes the thickness of the tread.
This leaves all of 9 1 2 between top of door opening and eave height however you also gain height due to the slope of the roof.
Here is an example first truss bearing columns at 12 feet from endwall 10 foot eave height nine foot tall overhead door top of opening should be 9 2 1 2 above grade with a residential overhead door.
Hope nothing major is facing west.
My instinct and experience says we need minimum 2 especially with a 14 high door but it never hurts to ask this would be needing two feet of eave height greater than the overhead door height the building in question has a 40 foot wide endwall.
Then tour homes similar to yours with a range of ceiling heights to assist in making your decision.
Matching the window and door height to the space.
Also consider the width.
For high ceilings talk to your builder about whether 10 or 12 foot dimensions are best.
Standard residential door heights are 6 8 and 8 0.
I used that size with 9 ft ceilings once that looked fine but i wouldn t go any higher with the ceiling without also raising the door height either with a taller door or doors with transoms.
We are using 6 8 doors with transoms in the section of our new build that has 10 ft ceilings and 6 8 doors in the rest of the house with 9 ft ceilings.
If you use 8 foot doors and crown molding you will still get that grand feeling with 9 foot ceilings.
With a standard 8 foot wall height this placement leaves a margin of 16 inches between the top of the window and the ceiling.
That is contrasting ceiling height turned out to be a nice feature.
With placement of the overhead door at the center of the endwall here is my answer to.
Narrow doors look even narrower when they are tall.
The rise or height of a step is measured from the top of one tread to the top of the next tread.
I try to use 3 0 wide door where possible.
